Unfortunately, the idea of having painted the photo-etched plates before assembling the structure of the lower deck did not work. The problem is that the fit between one part and another is extremely delicate and fine. After I applied a metal primer coating, the gray paint and the matt varnish, when I tried to fit each structure into each other I just could not get the correct fit and alignment.
I started to cut some parts to see if I could get them to fit, but things just seemed to get worse: the structure became crooked and misaligned. I took a deep breath and concluded that it was better to order another detail set !.
I managed to get the paint off the other structures and finish the central deck as seen in figures A through F. In figures G and H the wooden deck film being applied. This is an expensive aftermarket set but the end result is well worth it. However, I´ll have to wait for the new set for the bow and stern deck to arrive. I had no further problems with the other detail sets.
In figure 64 the finished gun with effects applied.
In figure 65 the barges and small boats finished.
Figures 66 to 76 show the completed hull, with some small parts, details, adjustments and complementary effects still to be added when the upper deck is installed.
For the wear and tear effects on the hull I used MIG Productions pigments´ colors old rust, light rust, panzer gray (fading) and black, this last one very lightly.
