Japanese aircraft carrier Akagi
Back to the planes in photos 18a to 33a, note that all are decaled but I have yet to apply the wash. There´s still a lot of work to be done in these little fellas. In photo 33a we see them all together but with the Vals yet to be painted.
Just a reminder each plane has about 12 decals and as there are 38 planes, this means a total of 456 decals to be applied. It’s never ending work. It took me a whole week just to complete this. And to think that still are a lot of things to do before I call it done. I will also paint a lot of tiny parts with a brush: the engine parts in black, tires, cockpit frames, bombs, torpedoes and propellers.
An important fact that I didn´t mention is that in the formation of the 1st attack wave, the aircraft were divided in the following order for take-off: 9 A6M2 type 21, 12 B5N2 Kate armed with torpedos and 15 B5N2 Kate armed with bombs. In the 2nd attack wave 9 A6M2 type 21 and 18 Val were used.
Remember the unfortunate idea, described on page 5, to paint the photoetch parts before assembling the bottom structure of the deck that resulted in a tremendous loss not only of time? Photos 63A to 63C will give you an idea of what happened.
I entered the final leg, in the next update we should have the model finished!
