We can see the assembly steps in the bow deck in photos 8 to 10, including a completely redone elevator, as the original part is not as faithful to the real thing as it should. Hasegawa´s part is all closed up like a box, when in fact it should be open since this is where the planes were stocked.
I used only the sides and opened the other 2 which are in the longitudinal direction. For this I used 0.5 mm thick plastic sheets. I added the side frames and put the elevator in photoetch, included in the deck detailing set. In photos 11 and 12 we see the completed elevator with planes and figures.
I put 4 Val and 1 Zero in the elevator, ready to go up and complete the 1st attack formation. The Val being used in the 2nd attack.
In the stern deck (photos 1 to 8) we see the assembly stages and the whole structure in photoetch. Although this is an expensive set imho it is a very worthy investment. What comes in the kit in plastic is very simple and the structures are way too thick. There still is the part for the central tracks that belongs to another set (Basic Part B). The kit part again does not reproduce the real thing, being all solid, with the only details on the tracks. No comparison to the metal set.
Back to the command island, we see it almost done with the sandbags glued around some areas. When I finally install the island to the superstructure the last details and will be added.
In photos 9 to 11 the last boats finally finished and ready to be placed on the bow along with the others.
I´m building the formation that made up the first wave of the attack on Pearl Harbor, consisting of 27 Kates and 9 Zeros. Again, no Vals were used in the first wave of the attack, only in the second one.
In photos 121 to 147 more detailing added to the model, including figures spread throughout the model. For now we see 75 figures. In total, I will add around 400 to 500 figures!,(in fact I'm still in doubt if I´ll have the remaining patience to paint the last 100 figures).
As you can see from these new photos, as I add more pieces I already apply the effects, so as not to accumulate everything in the end and run the risk of forgetting something.
Still without the bow and stern decks which are still being built. Note that these 2 parts are quite complex and require the most attention for having a large number of parts.
